Our History - 1983 to present day

Kinetic was formed by Chairman, Terry Maunder in 1983 as a spin-off from a joint venture with a Recruitment Agency called Pluswork Ltd. Based in Manchester, Kinetic’s success, and indeed the backbone of its staffing provision today, was found in the niche area of supplying trades people and blue-collar workers to manufacturing and engineering companies. From the outset, this offering was well received by Manchester based organisations, such as G.E.C, Magnesium Electron, B.I.C.C, Thorn E.M.I, Ilford’s and Lancashire Paper Mills.
In the first 2-3 years, Kinetic followed the mould of a typical small start up business. It occupied a single office which it shared and employed just one person; a lady called Lorraine Pickles, whose hard work and commitment to managing administration, sourcing and interviewing candidates allowed Terry to sell and thus build the business.
Back in those humble beginnings, despite its size, Kinetic was still at the forefront of delivering a service based on quality, whereby Terry was renowned for evolving new tests, candidate checklists and application forms specific to the skill-sets recruited for. Such processes are still used by Kinetic’s consultants today and are at the heart of their commitment to ensuring that only the most suitable candidates are engaged with clients.
With Terry’s energy and an adherence to adopting a strategy of positioning Kinetic as a quality focussed supplier of specialist staff, the company’s early growth took them to a new and bigger office in Trafford House, Manchester. Although Terry openly admits that, when sat with just one employee in the new office space of 1,000 square feet, his initial thought was ‘’what the hell have I done’’, Kinetic’s growth accelerated and in the 10 years of development from 1983 to 1993, the beginnings of a culture of quality and adventure were firmly established – elements that still exist today and have enabled Kinetic to establish additional specialist divisions, such as PayPartners, Rail, Nursing, as well as Oil and Gas.
As with all companies, the clients that Kinetic had in the early days have almost disappeared. Likewise, employees come and go, but thanks to many of Kinetic’s early staff re-educating themselves to cope with new demands, new clients arrived. Kinetic whole heartedly believes that everybody that’s joined them over the years has contributed to shape their ethos and left a positive legacy; undoubtedly, this has aided the company, led over the last 7 years by Neil Smith, to progress from a two-person operation to having nine regional offices across the U.K, and four Specialist / Niche market divisions, with a turnover in excess of £37 Million.
